General Questions

Curious about working with me and interested in exploring how coaching can work for you? Review the questions and responses below for more information.

What is included in a health coaching session and/or package?

Coaching services include 45-minute coaching sessions, email throughout your program for support, questions and encouragement, a biweekly check-in, text message motivation, plus recipes and grocery shopping help. During our call, we’ll dig deep and I will ask a lot of questions to help you determine the root of your problems and/or find lifestyle solutions that fit your palate (nutrition), your lifestyle, and your ability level.

How does Emily's coaching incorporate a functional medicine approach?

Functional medicine is a practice or treatment that focus on optimizing the function of the body and its organs. This approach to health and wellness usually involves a holistic approach or alternative medicine.

As a functional medicine practitioner in Washington, DC, goal is to get to the root of your chronic condition, whether it’s physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual. My goal is to help you and your doctors answer the following questions:

Where is the dysfunction in the body?
What are the sources of this dysfunction?
What individualized treatments are needed?
When has function been restored?

Why work with Emily?

Simply put, I care about helping women overcome a diagnosis of autoimmune condition. And I especially love seeing someone go from surviving to thriving!

I am a certified health and wellness coach, and I am also earning a Master’s degree in the field of nutrition and functional medicine.

I am knowledgeable about holistic and integrative health practices, whole foods nutrition, including elimination diets, juicing, plants-based diet, and gluten-sensitive/allergy diets (gluten-free). I can also offer guidance on lifestyle enhancement for wellness related to best exercises for individuals with autoimmune conditions.

I have personally healed from and know how to manage a chronic autoimmune disease while being a wife, mom of two, and working professional.

Where are the sessions held?

Thanks to technology, I work remotely with anyone — and I’m not limited by time and place. Coaching sessions are held by phone or Zoom.

How is coaching different from a doctor’s visit?

Doctors and medical specialists are essential and necessary, no doubt. Coaching does not replace a traditional doctor’s visit; nor should it.

Coaching is a process to uncover other non-medical issues that are related to your health problems and goals. What is discovered during coaching won’t necessarily be something that can be found by a blood test or physical assessment.

That said, I can also provide insight about autoimmune diseases and help you explore related matters to compliment your doctor’s advice or discuss with your primary physician and help you make the most of your visit to the doctor’s office.

What payment do you accept?

All coaching fees are paid out-of-pocket and payment is required before each coaching session. I do not accept insurance. But you may want to check with your employer to see if benefits can be used toward health coaching!
